CLICKER TRAINING
Clicker training is probably one of the best types of training available to us today, that’s not to say it’s for every dog (or owner for that matter) but as it is a positive reinforcement only technique dogs learn very quickly what is required of them as they can’t go wrong.
Most people start by picking up a book and reading it, they either don’t understand the concept being written about or they get it completely wrong and click at the wrong times, I have found only one book that is clearly written for the beginner and easy to follow (by Elizabeth Kershaw) it’s often much easier to be shown how to clicker train and once your dog knows what to do training becomes so much easier – it’s often harder for the handler to get their head around the clicker concept than the dog!

I may also use clicker training in some of my other classes or one to ones depending on the dog/handler/situation sometimes for nothing more than teaching the dog to use it’s brain rather than get into trouble!
