Puppies

.

So you want one of my puppies?
.
I only occasionally have puppies, maybe one litter a year. My puppies are extremely special to me and I only want what is best for them. Many breeders are happy just to take your money and hand you the puppy (and if you are lucky a small bag of food) without a care for its future. I am not one of those breeders!

All of my puppies are sold with a contract of sale and my emphasis is on finding the correct people/homes for my puppies and offering guidance and backup for the puppies life where needed.

My puppies are sold on the strict understanding that they be returned to me if at any time during the dogs life they find themselves in need of rehoming (for whatever reason).

All my puppies will be sold with their registrations endorsed not for breeding and not for export.  Breeding endorsements may be lifted at my discretion (but this will be discussed and put in your contract before you take your puppy) once they have a clear certificate for their patellas done by a veterinary surgeon. You must also confirm that any stud would also have been patella checked and clear. Consideration should also be given to eye testing for PRA

I strongly recommend that all dogs and bitches kept as pets only should be neutered. (Dogs neutered at 12 months, bitches 3 months after their first season) (There is plenty of evidence saying that early spay/neuter can cause growth and behaviour problems or increase the risk of bone cancer) Spaying or neutering will not make the dog fat or lazy, this is down to how you manage the dogs exercise and food intake.

You must be prepared to come and collect your puppy. I do not do motorway meet ups, nor will I deliver a puppy to a dog show.

If you are interested in a puppy from me please ring or email me with some information about yourselves, your home life, garden, working arrangements, and tell me what sort of life you can give one of my puppies and what research you have done into Papillons or Chihuahuas.

Children are fine providing they have been taught (or you are prepared to teach them) how to behave around dogs. It is important that you bring your children with you when you visit us so that I can see how they are with dogs.  I will be most unlikely to agree to sell you a puppy if you have children under 5 years old or to full time workers who are out all day. I do not sell puppies to people who keep them kennelled outside or who keep their dogs in cages

It is important that the whole household are in favour of having a puppy and I do not sell puppies as surprise gifts for other family members or friends.

As my main requirements in a dog are intelligence, plenty of confidence and soundness in mind my dogs tend to be extremely active, bordering on hyperactive so If you are looking for a quiet lap dog then one of my puppies will not be suitable for you.

As with most breeds papillons and chihuahuas need plenty of socialisation and training to prevent them becoming nervous, snappy and barky, I don’t expect all my puppies to be trained to competition standard but I do expect my puppies to be given correct training. Before collecting your puppy I expect that you will have checked out and preferably booked into local training classes (with an APDT trainer). It is advisable that you attend training classes for at least 12 months and I will help in finding reputable training class in your area. If you live within my area you will be given a free puppy training course of 8 weeks. I also expect that you would have researched and registered with your local Vet.

It is also requested that you keep in touch by phone, email or letter. I have a lot of good friends who have purchased puppies over the years and we always love to hear from owners who have our puppies.

If don't think you are suitable for one of my puppies you wont get one, however far you have traveled. My aim is to place my puppies in the right homes first time. I am responsible for them being here so its the least I can do for them.

There is more to good dog breeding than playing happy families or thinking it is a ‘good idea’ and my aim is to produce healthy dogs with sound temperaments that are good examples of the breed. With this in mind I only breed from dogs/bitches that are of good breed type and are sound in construction, movement and of course have excellent confident temperaments. I will not use nervous dogs or bitches in my breeding program.

All breeding dogs & bitches will have been tested clear of Patella luxation and we are in the process of getting them all PRA tested, so far they are all clear. Testing is the ONLY way to be sure our dogs are free from hereditary diseases. If you dont test you dont know.

My puppies are reared in the house, are KC registered, Insured and will have been vaccinated for Parvo. They will have been well socialised by having trips in the car and probably dog training classes (as a spectator) have been used to all household noises and socialised with people and other dogs, cats, and birds. They will be used to playing outdoors and have been well handled, bathed and groomed.

My puppies are reared on the BARF (raw food) diet, which I strongly recommend is continued. A full diet sheet and a supply of food will be provided but it is important that you research the diet before collecting your puppy. A good place to start is by reading ‘give your dog a bone’ and ‘grow your pup with bones’ by Dr Ian Billinghurst, I will always be available for any questions you may have on this way of rearing.

If after reading through all that you still feel you would like one of my puppies please feel free to contact me. I'm not as frightning as i sound - honest :-)

NOTE; after a recent bad experience with puppy buyer I will only sell to new owners who commit to a minimal (or no) vaccination program and if not feeding a barf diet will commit to feeding a holistic food that is not full of additives and preservatives!!
